[It feels strange, to be talking about this sort of thing with an adult, much less one who works for law enforcement; normally he'd assume this is some sort of test, to make sure that he can justify whatever he's throwing out there and isn't just screaming about idealism for idealism's sake.
But somehow he doesn't...think that's what this is. He doesn't know what this is, but he doesn't think it's that. In some ways it's a little unsettling, in others...well, welcome to conversations with Carter Blake, really.
The question makes him think of Celes, and that time all those months ago when he actually saw her upset and screaming and covered in blood; it makes him think of the very few times he's talked about Maizono, and the talks he's had with Mondo about Fujisaki. It's not an easy thing to answer, but maybe he has more experience with it than most.]
Well...like I've said, all the bad things they've done aren't going to go away. It's possible that some people might never really forgive them for what they did - whatever it was - and that's their choice. No one can make people forgive them, because that should be their choice, how they decide to handle it.
But sometimes people do terrible things, and you know they're terrible - but no matter what was done, it always feels worse somehow if the person doesn't show any remorse for it, isn't it? I mean, you can find the crime unforgivable either way, but a lack of feelings about it makes the person seem not even human anymore.
I think people...want each other to do good in whatever way they can, whether what they've done before is forgivable or not.
