I thought about it, but that would make my brother really mad, I'm pretty sure. I said that it's not like I'd have to be around her at all once the initial part is over, but he said that's not how dates work.

So no, I didn't ask Celes-kun; I asked one of my other friends, a girl I know. Her name is Maka Albarn, I don't know if you know her. She's nice, though.

We've only met in person once; it was for maybe five minutes, and I didn't smell her.

[ When Naegi regains consciousness, there's this weird disconnect in his memories; he's been in Johto for over a year, but the sudden new memories of the school contradict the time spent in the world of pokémon. Five minutes ago Naegi was inside Hope's Peak and Kiyotaka Ishimaru was dead and nothing could change that undeniable fact. Pokémon weren't real and there's no way he ever could train them.

That's why the time spent in Johto suddenly feels out of place, like the extra piece of a puzzle that doesn't fit with the rest no matter how many times you rotate it. You end up moving all the other pieces around and readjust your entire way of thinking as you scramble to figure out where the fuck the piece is supposed to go.

He slowly opens his eyes to see a ceiling he doesn't recognize (his brain is still trying to make sense of his memories but he's pretty sure he went to bed at an inn in a place called Cianwood) and he finds himself clenching the sheets of a bed he doesn't remember sleeping in. What...exactly was going on here? ]

Uuh... Huh...?

[Ishimaru is fortunate enough to be on watch when Naegi wakes up.

It's fortunate for a few reasons, really - the first being that it cuts down on the time he's spending freaking out, because he's been more or less beside himself for the last week; another is that it prevents the inevitable screaming interrogation that would have happened when it came to whomever was on watch, and the last thing anyone needs is Kirigiri being annoyed or Fujisaki in tears.

He had been reading a bit when Naegi came to, in the loosest possible definition of the word - he has a book open across his lap and he's pretty sure the book contains words, but hell if he can remember what any of the words actually are. Or, you know, what subject he's even reading about. (He's pretty sure there's a subject, but don't take his word for it.) Naegi actually making noise for once snaps him out of his thoughts immediately, however, and he straightens up a bit where he's sitting. He knows coming out of these things can be...sort of unpleasant; he has no idea what he's supposed to be expecting.]

Naegi-kun...?

[ Naegi sits up, rubbing his eyes as he does so; the room he's in is bright and it's taking a while for his eyes to adjust. He then puts a hand down and turns, letting his legs dangle off the side of the bed. He looks over to where Ishimaru is sitting, staring at him with a scrutinizing look in his eyes; you can practically hear the cogs in his brain working frantically as he's trying to figure out what the hell the dead guy is doing here. ]

Ishida-kun...? Shouldn't you be in the morgue?

[ When he finally speaks, his words are kind of sluggish and he yawns. ]

[ardent]

[...Ah.

It takes Ishimaru a moment to work out what to even say to that - somehow you managed to hit at least two points of Utter Wrong in seven words, good job, Naegi.]

...No, Naegi-kun - I'm not Ishida right now. And we're not dead anymore here, remember?

[superordinary]

Y-yeah... Sorry, it's...kind of confusing, right now. But I remember.

[ His brain is starting to work this out. Just a little bit more. ]

I went back. To the school, I mean.

[ardent]

You went into a coma like I did at the beginning of the year; you were asleep for a week. Kirigiri-kun and I came here from Goldenrod City; you're in Olivine City right now. Everything's okay, everyone is safe, and I don't think anyone new has shown up since you fell asleep; no one's left, either. I think Tsumiki-kun might be in a coma right now too, though...

[...He...thinks that's everything...?]

[superordinary]

N-not so quickly, Ishimaru-kun...

[ Like, he appreciates the infodump but geez, he didn't need all of that at once. ]

Where's Kirigiri-san?

[ardent]

A-Ah, right...!

[Ugh, look, he's not good at this - ]

We set up a rotating schedule to keep an eye on you. I don't know exactly where she is right now; do you want me to find her?

[superordinary]

[ He shakes his head. ]

I'll contact her later, if that's okay... Um, can I get something to drink? My throat's kinda dry...

[ardent]

Yes, of course! Stay there, I'll...

[Just. Let him jump up and go do that, if for no better reason than it gives him an excuse to leave the immediate area for a second and collect himself. This is awkward as hell for some reason and he isn't entirely sure what to do with himself; the task of getting water is a brief one given the general layout of hotel rooms, but it gives him something to do with his hands for the duration.]

...Are you going to be all right?

[superordinary]

[ As soon as Naegi gets that water he's just going to drink it all in one go. ]

Yeah. It's...been kind of a long day. The final trial was exhausting.

[ardent]

The final trial...

[Well, that's...promising, right?]

So you've managed to escape the school, then.

[superordinary]

Not quite. I was just about to open the door when I came back here.

[ardent]

But you've won.

[The relief in his voice is obvious; he sits down again, though his hands are quick to tighten in his lap while he tries to work out exactly how he feels about all of that.]

...You did really well, Naegi-kun, I'm happy for you.

[And he actually is; he's not good at expressing it well, but that much is true.]
