It's okay if you're busy. I was just thinking about something.

I'm not busy. Is everything okay?

[nostabbing]

I think I miss somebody.

[ardent]

Someone from your world, you mean?

[nostabbing]

[What, did you think this was going to be something NOT stupid?]

Yeah. From home. I keep...thinking. About it. But even when I think about it, it doesn't help. It just makes it worse. But not thinking about it doesn't make it not-worse either.

It sounds like you miss them, then, yes!

Who is it? If you don't mind.

His name is Hardison. I guess we work together? He's on my team. My spy team. You know, for when I do spy stuff. At home.

[ardent]

Is he your boyfriend?

[nostabbing]

No! Maybe. No. I think...he...it would be okay if we were, he would. Like. That? But...it's fiddly. I'm. I'm fiddly. So he's...not. Maybe not yet. But not...right now.

[ardent]

Oh.

What do you mean, you're "fiddly" - are you not sure you want him to be?

[nostabbing]

I guess? I mean it's fun when we work together and stop bad guys and stuff but that's the job. I know I like...that. I wasn't very good at liking other stuff but I think maybe I'm getting a little better at it so maybe that's why I feel...like this?

[ardent]

I think that makes sense. I've been experiencing something similar - not with missing people, I mean. With getting better at things, and then feeling them more often.

[nostabbing]

You don't have a lot of people to miss, anyway, since they're all showing up here lately.

[ardent]

Sort of. The people who are showing up here are just the most pressing; they need to come here, it's important, and it's for the best if we never go back once we're all here.

But never going back means that I might never see certain people again. Maybe they'll be brought here too, but there's no way to know. The ones who have come have all been my classmates.

[nostabbing]

...and if Hardison doesn't ever come here, then the only way I'll see him again is if I leave. And then maybe I'll never see you again.

That really sucks.

[ardent]

Are things good, back in your world? Or as good as they can be, I guess.

[nostabbing]

There's a lot of bad guys. Like corporate scum kind of bad guys, who do stuff that hurts people, and evil dictators and stuff. The boss of my team used to work for an insurance company but his son died because they refused to pay for a treatment that maybe could've saved him. And then someone else didn't know who she was for a while so she left to go figure it out and I guess she's back and knows now. And then another one is our retrieval specialist and I'm pretty sure he's part of some kind of illuminati thing that controls the world from the shadows, and then there's Hardison. And me.

It's pretty normal, I guess. We do good stuff. Help good people, stop bad guys. Stuff like that.

That's what the world was like for me, too. At least, that's how I remember it. From what I've heard, it might not be like that anymore; it's complicated, but I've been away for a while and don't really have much of a way to know.

I'm glad to hear that at least everything is normal for you, though, and that you're doing good things; the world needs more people like that.

I don't think the world needs more people like me. They need more people like you and your friends.
